It is little wonder that “Stand Up, Stand Up for Jesus” became one of the theme songs for The Salvation Army. The lyrics of this hymn, written by George Duffield in 1858, along with its driving melody composed by Adam Geibel almost 40 years later, encourages us to “Be alert, stand firm in the faith, act like a man, be strong” as we read in Corinthians 16:13 (HCSB). These inspiring words, from the very first verse, also promise ongoing success and a final victory to those who follow Christ.

Stand up, stand up for Jesus, Ye soldiers of the cross.
Lift high His royal banner; It must not suffer loss.
From vict’ry unto vict’ry His army shall he lead,
Till every foe is vanquished And Christ is Lord indeed.
